Active reception
perception — Latin percipere: per- (thoroughly) + capere (to seize, to take hold of): to take hold of thoroughly — an active grasping of what is present.
awareness — Old English wær (careful, wary, on guard): being actively attentive. Awareness as watchfulness — active, not passive.
German Wahrnehmung = wahr-nehmen: truth-taking. Taking in what is actually real.
All three point to active engagement with what is present. All three have been compressed toward: subjective inner experience, individual interpretation. "Perception is reality" — the relativist flip: you perceive your reality; I perceive mine.
Perception as isolation
"Perception is reality" — widely used in management and therapy — inverts the original.
If perception is reality, there is no reality to receive. There is only each person's subjective construction.
This compression serves certain institutional purposes: if there is only individual perception, systemic patterns (which require shared perception to be seen) become invisible. Everyone experiences their individual reality. The structure that produces those individual experiences does not appear.
The original Wahrnehmung — taking in what is real — required truth to be present to be taken in.

Perception is not construction.
Perception is the active reception of what is actually present.
The question is not: what is your personal reality? The question is: what is actually here, and are you receiving it clearly?
Not everyone perceives equally clearly. Not every perception is equally accurate. Those two statements are only possible if there is something real to be perceived.
The restoration: perception as active truth-taking — requiring both openness and rigour.
